Professor Amos attended Rimi College Kaduna and Abdul Aziz memorial College, Okene, Kogi State. He obtained his B.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from University of Ibadan, M.Sc. and PhD from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. He started his career as a Graduate Assistant in 1992 and rose through the ranks to full professorship in 2009.
He has held different administrative positions ranging from departmental examination officer, faculty examination officer, University examination processing chairman, Head of Department, to Dean of School. During this time, he took the SAAT to higher heights. He was a one-time winner of University’ Award of Excellence in recognition of his contribution to the University. As a leader, his hallmark experiences include analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills in team building; efficiency and ability to work on a number of multiple projects at the same time. He completed a project for the IDH Netherlands for development of manuals for Cassava Farmers which would be used in countries across Africa. In addition, he provided leadership to a team of social scientists on the STEP-B project on food security in south-western Nigeria, and led other scientists in the conduct of multidisciplinary research project leading to the publication of high-impact publications, including journals, books and technical extension bulletins. He also led and completed a baseline study of rice stakeholders in south western Nigeria for the then Agricultural Transformation Agenda of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Abuja with a team of seven other researchers. He coordinated the West African Agricultural Productivity Program (WAAPP) project in FUTA.
While serving as Dean, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology in the University, he engaged in administration, teaching and research in the school and oversaw the affairs of the Teaching and Research Farm in the University. He was able to mobilize internally and externally generated revenues for the construction of new conference room for the school and the establishment of commercial poultry production pen worth several millions of naira.
He was able to attract and mobilize human resource from the FAO of the United Nations and the CTA of Netherlands to FUTA at different fora to give Annual lectures which have been hugely successful as many colleagues were able to establish academic linkages.
Professor Amos who has over 65 scientific publications in different academic outlets globally has successfully supervised over 18 PhD thesis, over 25 masters and B. Agric. Tech students in the field of Agricultural Economics in addition to serving as external assessor to different postgraduate students’ thesis for over 20 universities in Nigeria as well as assessment of professorial cadre for different Universities.
Professor Amos a member of the following professional bodies Nigerian Association of Agricultural Economists, Agricultural Society of Nigeria and West African Association of Agricultural Economists has consulted for several local and international reputable organisations like the World Bank, KPMG, Terfa Link and CERAD.
Professor Amos who hails from Ikoyi- Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, is married with children.
